Atarax is used for symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension associated with psychoneurosis and as an adjunct in organic disease states in which anxiety is manifested.

How Taken

For adults, 50-100 mg daily; for children under 6 years, 50 mg daily in divided doses and over 6 years, 50-100 mg daily in divided doses.

Warnings/Precautions

It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Since many drugs are so excreted, you should use caution if taking this drug while pregnant.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Possible Side Effects

The side effects you may experience on Atarax are usually mild and transitory in nature: dry mouth, drowsiness.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Overdose

The most common manifestation of Atarax overdosage is hypersedation. Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

The shares of Advanced Polymer Systems Inc. and Johnson & Johnson rose strongly today in the wake of the approval by the Food and Drug Administration of Johnson & Johnson's skin cream Renova.
Shares of Advanced Polymer were up $1.375, or 25 percent, at $6.75, in Nasdaq trading. Johnson & Johnson's shares were up $3.375, to $87.625, on the New York Stock Exchange.
Johnson & Johnson, based in New Brunswick, N.J., won approval on Tuesday from the F.D.A. to sell Renova, the first prescription cream to reduce fine facial wrinkles, brown spots and surface roughness.
Advanced Polymer, based in Redwood City, Calif., has the rights to develop second- generation products based on Renova, said Gordon Sangster, the company's controller.
Eli Kammerman, an analyst at Salomon Brothers, said that Renova should add $200 million to $250 million to Johnson & Johnson's sales in 1996. The product's market could eventually reach $500 million annually, he said.
The active ingredient in Renova is tretinoin, which is also the basis of Retin-A, the company's acne medicine.
